How to use WAV to MP3 Converter
- 1Drop your WAV file into the box.
- 2Pick a quality: 128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps recommended, 320 kbps for music.
- 3Check the estimated MP3 size and click Convert to MP3.
- 4Listen to the preview and click Download MP3.
How much smaller will it get?
CD-quality stereo WAV uses about 10 MB per minute. The same minute as MP3 is about 1.4 MB at 192 kbps, or 2.4 MB at 320 kbps: roughly 75 to 90% smaller. The estimated size appears before you convert.
At 192 kbps and above, most listeners can't tell an MP3 from the WAV in normal listening. Keep the WAV if you still plan to edit or master the recording, and share the MP3.
Built for long recordings
Recorders, DAWs and screen capture tools often produce WAV files of hundreds of megabytes. Uploading those to an online converter is slow. Here the WAV is read straight from your disk and encoded with the LAME MP3 encoder inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and the only wait is the encoding itself.
Need the opposite, audio for editing from a video? Extract Audio from Video saves WAV too.
Common WAV sources
- Field and voice recorders (Zoom, Tascam, Sony) that record WAV by default.
- Exports from Audacity, GarageBand, Logic or FL Studio for sharing a demo.
- Call and meeting recorders that save uncompressed audio.
- Sound effects and samples you want to send by email.
If the WAV is 24-bit or 32-bit float, it converts the same way; the MP3 encoder takes care of the conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Is WAV to MP3 conversion lossless?
No, MP3 is lossy. At 192 or 320 kbps the difference is very small for most listening.
Does it use FFmpeg?
WAV files are converted with the built-in engine and a small LAME MP3 encoder, with no big download. If a WAV uses an unusual encoding the browser can't read, it falls back to FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly (GPL, source linked at /tvid/FFMPEG-NOTICE.txt), a one-time download of about 10 MB.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is converted in your browser and never leaves your device.
Does it keep stereo and the sample rate?
Yes. Channels and sample rate are kept as long as MP3 supports them.
Is there a length or size limit?
No limit from us. Very large files on a phone may hit browser memory limits; the tool warns you.
Which bitrate should I use?
128 kbps for speech and voice notes, 192 kbps for general use, 320 kbps when you share music and want the best MP3 quality.
