How to use Merge PDF
- 1Drop two or more PDF files into the box, or click to choose them. You can add more files at any time.
- 2Drag files into order, or use the up and down arrows. Sort by name and Reverse help with long lists.
- 3Optionally type a page range under a file, such as 1-3, to include only those pages.
- 4Click Merge and download the combined PDF.
What gets kept when you merge
Pages are copied into the new file as they are. Text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their original resolution, and nothing is converted to pictures. The merged file is named after the first file, for example report-merged.pdf.
Document-level extras such as bookmarks from the source files are not carried over, because each file has its own outline and they cannot be combined reliably.
Useful tricks
- Pick pages per file. Type
1-2under a file to take only its first two pages, or5-for page 5 to the end. - Numbered scans. Sort by name puts scan-1, scan-2 and scan-10 in natural order instead of putting 10 before 2.
- Restricted files work. PDFs that open without a password but block editing are handled automatically. Files that need a password to open must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.
Privacy and limits
Merging runs entirely in your browser, so confidential contracts or statements never leave your computer. There is no fixed limit on file count or size, but very large jobs (hundreds of megabytes) depend on your device's memory. If a merge fails on a phone, try a desktop browser.
Frequently asked questions
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 100 files per batch. The practical limit is your device memory; a few hundred pages is no problem on a normal laptop.
Can I merge only some pages of each PDF?
Yes. Type a page range such as 1-3, 7 under any file in the list and only those pages are included.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The files are read and combined by your browser and the result is saved straight to your device.
Why can't I merge a password-protected PDF?
A file that needs a password to open cannot be read until it is decrypted. Remove the password with Unlock PDF, then merge it. Files that only restrict printing or editing merge without extra steps.
Does merging reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as-is, so text, vector graphics and images look exactly like the originals.
