How to use Crop PDF

  1. 1Add your PDF and choose whether to crop All pages or Selected pages (for example 1, 3-5).
  2. 2Drag the crop box and its handles on the page, type margins in millimeters, or use Auto-trim white margins.
  3. 3Optionally turn on Also shrink the paper size if the file is for printing.
  4. 4Click Crop and download yourfile-cropped.pdf.

Automatic whitespace trimming

Auto-trim renders each page and finds the area that actually has content, then adds a border you choose (3 mm by default). Pick Same box for all pages to use one box that fits the content of every selected page, which keeps a consistent page size for reading and printing. Pick Trim each page separately to give every page its own tight crop, ideal for slides, receipts or scanned pages with uneven margins. You can still adjust any page by hand afterwards.

Precise and lossless

The handles work with a mouse or a finger, and the margin boxes take exact values in millimeters. The resulting size is shown in millimeters and inches as you go. Cropping sets the PDF CropBox, which is the standard way to define the visible area of a page, and keeps the trim, bleed and art boxes inside it. Nothing is re-rendered, so text stays sharp and selectable and the file size barely changes. Rotated pages are cropped exactly as you see them.

Crop box or paper size

PDF readers show only the CropBox, but some print workflows and older apps use the MediaBox (the paper size). Turn on Also shrink the paper size to set both. Either way, the content outside the crop is hidden rather than deleted, so do not rely on cropping to remove sensitive information.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a PDF online for free?

Add the PDF, drag the crop box over the area you want to keep, and click Crop. No sign-up and no watermark.

Can I crop only some pages?

Yes. Choose Selected pages and enter pages or ranges such as 1, 3-5 or 8-. Pages not listed keep their original size.

Can different pages have different crops?

Yes. Trim each page separately gives every page its own box based on its content, and you can fine-tune any page afterwards.

Does cropping reduce quality or file size?

Quality is unchanged because pages are not re-rendered. The file size stays about the same, since the hidden area is still stored in the file.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are rendered and cropped in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.

Why crop a PDF at all?

Trimming wide margins makes pages easier to read on phones and e-readers, removes scanner borders, and lets you cut a figure or receipt out of a larger page before printing or sharing it.
