How to use Add Page Numbers
- 1Add your PDF. A preview of the first page appears on the right.
- 2Pick a position on the small page grid and a format such as Page 1 of 10.
- 3Set Start on page to skip a cover, and First number if numbering should begin at something other than 1.
- 4Adjust font, size, margin and color while watching the preview, then click Add page numbers and download.
Flexible numbering
- Skip the cover: start on page 2 and the second page shows 1, or any first number you set.
- Stop early: set End on page to leave appendices unnumbered.
- Double-sided printing: Mirror on even pages swaps left and right so numbers sit on the outer edge.
- Totals: formats with a total count only the numbered pages.
Accurate on rotated pages
Numbers are placed relative to how each page is displayed, so landscape pages and pages with a rotation setting get upright numbers in the correct corner. The preview is rendered from the real output, and you can step through pages to check them.
Limits
Numbers use the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times, Courier), which cover Latin characters. They are added as real text on top of the page and do not move existing content, so pick a margin that avoids your footer. Processing happens in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start page numbers on page 2?
Set Start on page to 2. Leave First number at 1 if the second page should be numbered 1.
Can I use the format Page X of Y?
Yes. Choose Page 1 of 10 or 1 of 10 in the Format menu.
Will the numbers cover my content?
They are drawn on top of the page at the margin you choose. Use the preview and increase the margin if they overlap a footer.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Numbering and the preview are both done in your browser.
