How to use Remove EXIF

  1. 1Drop your photos into the box. The tool checks each one and lists what it found, with a pin icon for photos that contain GPS.
  2. 2Keep Keep rotation and Keep color profile on unless you need them gone too.
  3. 3Click Remove metadata from your files.
  4. 4Check the report for each file, then download one photo or all as a ZIP.

Lossless removal

Most metadata removers redraw the whole image and save it again, which costs quality every time. Here, JPG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned by removing the metadata blocks directly from the file. The image data is copied unchanged, so the photo is pixel for pixel identical and usually a little smaller.

Removed: EXIF (including GPS, camera make, model and serial numbers, dates, software and maker notes), XMP, IPTC, comments, embedded thumbnails, PNG text fields, Content Credentials, and extra data appended after the image such as previews and depth maps.

Checked after cleaning

Every cleaned file is read again and the report confirms that no personal metadata is left. The report also lists exactly what was removed from each photo, so you know whether it had a location in it.

Keep rotation writes back only the orientation flag so portrait photos stay upright. Keep color profile keeps the ICC profile, which holds no personal data but keeps colors accurate on wide gamut photos.

HEIC and other formats

HEIC files cannot be edited in place in a browser, so they are converted to JPG at quality 92 without metadata, and the report says so. Other formats such as GIF, BMP and AVIF are re-saved as PNG, and animated GIFs lose their animation. Everything runs on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?

Not for JPG, PNG and WebP. Only the metadata blocks are removed and the image data is kept exactly as it was.

Will my photos turn sideways?

Not with Keep rotation on. It keeps only the orientation flag, which contains no personal information.

How do I know the GPS location is really gone?

Each cleaned file is checked again after processing and marked with Checked: no personal metadata left. You can also open it in the EXIF Viewer.

Can I remove metadata from many photos at once?

Yes. Add as many photos as you like and download them all as one ZIP.

What about iPhone HEIC photos?

They are converted to JPG without any metadata, because HEIC files cannot be edited directly in the browser.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser on your device.
